Plug-Ins Preferences
Plug-ins are extra features that extend Photoshop's capabilities. For example, there are third-party vendors that sell filter software, such as Eye Candy. By default, plug-ins are installed in the Adobe Photoshop CSx/Plug-Ins directory. If no other folders been assigned to store plug-ins, you'll see "<None>" displayed. This, as well as the Choose... button, will be greyed out.
View a full-sized version of the Plug-Ins preferences or the CS3 version.
- Additional Plug-Ins Folder
- You may wish to store plug-ins in a separate folder. Enable the Additional Plug-Ins Folder checkbox and the Choose... button will activate. Click it and a dialog box will open. Navigate to the folder where you want to store plug-ins and click the folder to highlight it. Then click the OK (Choose) button in the dialog box. The path to the folder will replace "<None>". You will have to restart Photoshop before new plug-ins will take effect.
Extensions Panels
Extensions panels are additional panels that are displayed in Photoshop to operate plug-ins. For example, let's say a special effects plug-in includes a drop shadow effect. You'd use an extension panel to modify the colour, size, and opacity of the drop shadow.
- Allow Extensions to Connect to the Internet (CS4, CS5)
- This allows extensions to connect to the Internet to do things like look for updates or access additional functionality.
- Load Extension Panels (CS4, CS5)
- This toggles the display of extensions panels on or off.
- Show CS Live in Application Bar (CS5)
- CS Live is a set of online features at the Adobe web site. You can hide or show its icon on the Application bar.
CS3 and Earlier
- Legacy Photoshop Serial Number
- Some Photoshop plug-ins require an older Photoshop type of serial number. This is where you can enter in this number in order to get your plug-ins working with your newer version of Photoshop.
