Class Lectures
- (1) Digital Graphics
- Before you learn to manipulate an image in Photoshop, it's important to know what exactly what digital graphics are. This section covers topics such as colour spaces, graphic formats, resolution and image file types.
- (2) Interface
- This section will introduce you to Photoshop's interface and workspace: its menus, panels, tools and preferences.
- (3) New Images
- In this section we will look at creating new images, opening or importing images, navigating around an image and the History panel.
- (4) Selections
- A key to manipulating images is the ability to isolate an area so that you can edit that part without affecting the rest of the image. Selections are one way of accomplishing this. The various selections tools are covered in this section along with exercises in which you can practice making selections.
- (5) Colour
- In this module you'll learn about using colour in Photoshop. It covers colour modes, setting colours, the Colour and Swatches panels, mixing your own colours using the colour picker, and using the Eyedropper tool to sample colours from images.
- (6) Painting
- This module covers the painting tools and their options, tool preset libraries, and the Fill and Stroke commands. There are quite a number of hands-on exercises during which you'll learn the concepts and try your hand at digital imagery.
- (7) Layers
- In this section you will be introduced to the most powerful feature that Photoshop has to offer. Layers offer versatility because of their ability to interact with each other while remaining autonomous. We will examine how to create, modify, move and manage layers as well as how to apply special layer effects such as bevels and drop shadows. Drawing and editing vector shapes is included in this module because they are created on special layers. There is a project at the end of the module that reviews what you've learned.
- (8) Retouching and Editing
- Now that you're familiar with the fundamentals of Photoshop, you'll be able to learn retouching and editing functions by working through a variety of practice exercises, including digital photograph retouching.
- (9) Channels and Masks
- Selections can be saved in channels so they can be recalled and used again. You'll be introduced to masks which allow you to protect areas of an image while you're editing.
- (B) Colour and Tonal Adjustments
- Another feature in Photoshop's tool set is the ability to adjust colour or brightness within an image. In this section we will take a look at the available adjustment tools in Photoshop and how to use them in manipulating images. Some of these can be used to create special effects.
- (C) Saving Files
- The next step in exploring Photoshop is to understand all of the options for saving files, both normally and specifically for the Web. Photoshop offers different saving commands that all save files, but in some cases in very different ways. We will review each of those methods and the options associated with each in this section.
- (D) Filters and Special Effects
- You've worked through colour theory, bitmap and vector images, and even levels and curves. Now we can finally get to the fun part: filters and special effects in Photoshop.
